Message from the Management
JX Metals Circular Solutions was established as a joint venture company undertaking business related to resource circulation, including discarded appliances, discarded electronic devices, and end-of-use lithium-ion batteries from automobiles.
Amid the trend toward decarbonization, demand for metal resources such as copper and minor metals is expected to increase even further in the future. Against this backdrop, mainly in the automotive, appliance, and electronic device industries, there is a growing interest in closed-loop recycling, in which end-of-use products are recovered and recycled, and then reused as the same materials. This process is not always easy, and making it a reality requires frameworks in which the entire supply chain throughout the product life cycle collaborates to increase the efficiency of resources. This collaboration carries a particularly important meaning in Japan, which is dependent on imports for most of its metal resources.
At JX Metals Circular Solutions, by combining the JX Advanced Metals Group’s business in copper and precious metal recycling and automotive lithium-ion battery recycling with Mitsubishi Corporation’s cross-industrial global networks and expertise, we will strengthen the collection of raw materials for recycling and promote digitalization and reforms in recycling processes in collaboration with recycling companies around the world, and at the same time offer solutions to issues faced by automotive OEMs and comprehensive electrical equipment manufacturers, as we strive to contribute to the realization of a circular economy.

Raw Material Recycling Business
The raw material recycling business involves the collection of various types of scrap, including precious metals and special metals (mainly non-ferrous), and the recovery of valuable materials.
Leveraging a worldwide collection network, we ensure the stable collection of materials for recycling, while the JX Advanced Metals Group undertakes efficient metal smelting and the processing of recycling materials and waste materials.
Furthermore, by tapping into a global sales network that has been cultivated over many years, we supply nonferrous raw materials to smelters and rolled-copper manufacturers transcending the boundaries of the Group.
Based on the JX Advanced Metals Group’s Sustainable Copper Vision, we are working to increase the volume of recycled material collection and processing for Green Hybrid Smelting, which dramatically increases the mixing rate of recycled materials in copper smelting.
By further increasing the capacity for collecting materials for recycling, JX Metals Circular Solutions will contribute to increasing collection and processing volumes. At the same time, by applying digital technologies to put in place frameworks for tracing the recycling process, we will build a structure that meets the needs arising in the “arterial supply chain,” which includes manufacturers of parts and final products, about what types of materials are being used.
LiB Recycling Business
In the lithium-ion battery (LiB) recycling business, we are developing recycling technologies to enable closed-loop recycling, which utilizes minor metals contained in end-of-use LiBs as raw materials for automotive LiBs.
JX Metals Circular Solutions Tsuruga Co., Ltd., our 100%-owned subsidiary, has introduced expanded processes, and is conducting verification tests that include the startup of high-purity nickel sulfate recovery facilities (began operations in 2021) and high-purity cobalt sulfate recovery facilities (began operations in 2022), and more recently the startup of high-purity lithium carbonate recovery facilities in April 2023.
We will further refine these technologies and prepare for the coming era in which end-of-use LiBs will be generated in high volumes. Working with various business partners, we will verify implementation of closed-loop recycling in society, as well as the acceleration of activities aimed at business creation in this field.
